Instructor-led
Build practical safety skills that last
SafeStart helps people recognise how human factors increase risk and develop practical skills to prevent errors. With instructor-led training supported by digital tools and activities between sessions, employees build stronger safety awareness and habits that last.

ORGANISATION-WIDE
A programme that involves everyone
SafeStart brings leadership, programme teams, trainers, supervisors and frontline employees into the process, with each group playing a clear role in successful implementation.

Set goals and measure success
Champion the programme and support its implementation across the organisation.
Internal trainers
Build internal capability.
Lead SafeStart learning and provide an internal point of expertise.

Supervisors & Managers
Reinforce the learning.
Support employees as they practise and apply the techniques in everyday work.
Frontline Workers

Build the skills and habits to recognise and manage risk in everyday situations.
How it works
A structured rollout, built for lasting change
SafeStart follows a structured implementation process that gives your organisation time to prepare, build skills, apply them in everyday situations and reinforce learning over time.
Get the organisation ready
SafeStart works with your team before employee training begins to align goals, prepare the people involved and plan a successful implementation.
SafeStart consultants guide the preparation workshops before employee training begins.
Leadership Workshop
Align SafeStart with organisational priorities, define desired outcomes and KPIs, and develop an elevator pitch to communicate SafeStart effectively across the organisation.
Trainer Certification
Train and certify internal trainers to deliver the four Core Units and roll out SafeStart training independently across the organisation.
Steering Committee
Establish a cross-functional project team to coordinate implementation, plan communications, track progress and support the integration of SafeStart into existing safety systems.
Sustainability Workshop
Prepare supervisors and managers to reinforce the learning between units and support its continued use in everyday work.
Complete the core training
Challenge traditional thinking about how incidents happen and introduce a different perspective on risk and human factors. Employees actively explore the concepts through discussion, real-life examples and practical exercises rather than passive instruction.
Four interactive 90-minute units.
Delivered progressively
Turn learning into everyday skills
Between units, employees start using the SafeStart tools and techniques in real situations, connecting what they have learned to their work, their own experiences and everyday life.
Apply
Use the tools and techniques in real work and everyday situations.
Spot
Recognise risk patterns, close calls and situations where the techniques can help.
Build Habits
Practise the techniques repeatedly so they become easier to use when it matters.
Practice between each unit
1 to 4 weeks between units
Keep the skills in use
Building lasting habits takes continued practice. Supervisors, refresher activities and YOUFactors work together to keep SafeStart concepts active, helping employees maintain their awareness and apply the techniques over time.
Review progress
Track how SafeStart is being applied, review progress against your goals and identify where further support is needed.
Integrate
Bring SafeStart concepts and language into existing safety procedures, tools and systems.
Keep talking
Use everyday safety conversations, such as shift handovers, toolbox talks and team meetings, to keep the concepts active.
Refresh
Revisit the concepts through refresher activities and further learning to reinforce skills over time.
Continued reinforcement and follow-up
Ongoing after Unit 4
