What is SafeStart Training?
SafeStart reduces injuries and accidents, not just at work,
but at home and on the road too.
Participants learn practical skills to reduce human error and improve decision-making in real situations. The objective is simple: understand why and when errors occur, then learn how to intervene before an incident happens.
The result is a sustainable reduction in injuries and accidents—both at work and in everyday life.

Transforming Your Safety Culture

Preparation
We work with your team to develop a tailored implementation plan. This includes preparing managers and establishing a steering committee.
Training
Training sessions are dynamic and built around real-life stories. They are supported by videos, learning materials and digital tools.
Reinforcement
Each session builds on the previous one through practical application. This repetition helps participants internalise the techniques and develop safer habits in their daily work.

FAQ
What is health and safety training – and how is SafeStart different?
Most safety training focuses on rules, procedures and compliance in order to improve employees’ workplace safety behaviour. SafeStart goes beyond that: It is a behaviour-based safety programme rooted in human factors. Instead of only teaching what to do, we help people to develop skills that allow them to make safety become a reflex at moments they need it the most - at moments of distraction.
Does SafeStart replace our existing compliance or safety systems?
No. SafeStart does not replace your safety system. It strengthens existing procedures by addressing the human factors behind most incidents. When people learn how to manage moments of rushing, distraction, fatigue or frustration, they follow safety processes more consistently.
SafeStart enhances your system by improving day-to-day behaviour.
How do we implement SafeStart training?
There are three implementation options, depending on your organisation’s needs:
- Onsite – Delivered onsite by certified SafeStart trainers through classroom-style sessions and practical application at the workplace.
- Hybrid – A blend of in-person workshops and digital reinforcement tools to support skill and habit development between sessions.
- 100% Digital – Delivered through the YOUFactors digital platform, using microlearning and daily nudges to build skills and habits over time.
Deployment phases and timelines are adapted to the chosen approach. Regardless of format, the programme follows a structured behaviour change cycle: introduce the concepts, apply them in real situations, reinforce until safer skills and habits become automatic.
The delivery method changes. The behaviour change methodology stays the same.
Why is human factors training important?
Because nearly 90% of incidents are caused by human error, not by lack of knowledge about the job or a work procedure.
Multiple industry studies show that the majority of workplace injuries are linked to unintentional actions, often due to rushing, frustration; fatigue or complacency. These states increase the risk of being injured for any given hazard.
SafeStart directly targets these moments. It teaches employees how to recognise and manage their states in real time and as such, enables them to (subconsciously) reduce the likelihood of making an error.
Systems handle risks around us. SafeStart handles the risks within us.
How quickly can SafeStart deliver results?
Results vary depending on your current safety maturity and level of involvement.
Organisations that fully engage with the programme typically achieve 30 to 50% injury reduction in the first 18 months (up to 70%), along with increased engagement, higher near-miss reporting and more proactive safety behaviours.
The more actively your teams participate, the stronger and more sustainable the results.
Is health and safety training mandatory for employees?
In most countries, employers are legally required to provide health and safety training to protect workers. However, compliance alone does not prevent incidents.
SafeStart goes beyond mandatory training by addressing human factors and reducing unintentional errors that traditional safety programmes do not cover. This helps organisations meet requirements while significantly improving real-world safety performance.
